Still at same agency. Still freelancing. Still no offer letter. They have a huge new business pitch that could go either way, current clients that could go either way, and projections that could go either way. For now, I’m just happy to be working…contracted, full time, or otherwise.

I am in *exactly* the same situation. Solidarity, brother.
That photo is perfect.
I bet having a job feels great.
Good luck there.
Yep. Every time my employees give me a look about working late, I look back, and not a single word needs to be said.
I, too, am in the same situation. Contracted, hoping for an offer (since last June), but happy for each day worked with pay, as I was laid off for 6 months before this gig.
The uncertainty of it all is frustrating, but let’s say hello and welcome to “The New Economy”. We all shouldn’t expect any substantial job stability for years to come. It’s not like our economy and working lives will simply go back to pre-Bush era conditions.
I feel I’ll be working under similar unstable situations and conditions for the rest of my career. This is how it is and will be.
Thoughts?
@ copywriter:
I’m currently employed full-time (and VERY busy) but i also have a feeling the perma-lance kind of working situations will increase.
I also feel that in the future, the only way creatives are really going to thrive is by letting go of the notion that we’re only here to “come up with ideas for ads and then produce the ads.”
We’ll need to do the above very well and very quickly, plus we’re going to have to push our skills beyond, to even be competitive.
In the future, I seriously feel there’s going to be ad-creating computer software and creative folks overseas who will be able to do ads faster and less expensively than we do.
We, ourselves, may also want to consider heading overseas…
Overseas is a great idea. Been there, done that, doing it again (hopefully…interview in Toronto next week, call from Dubai on Saturday). I worked in Asia for 10 years, and a couple of years in the UK as Global CD (which sent me all over the place), and I must say that I am so very, very happy for the experience. Everyone should do it!
