As most of you know, I’ve been pretty focused on making Lemonade these last months. I’m genuinely excited about how good it could be, and not because of anything I did. But because of the incredible talent that volunteered to make it with me.
One of those incredible talents is Peter Nelson, who was the Director Of Photography during our New York and Boston shoots. Here is a guy who shot Sicko with Michael Moore, as well as domestic and international documentary work for PBS, HBO, and the BBC. In short, he’s the guy when you’re making a movie, you think, “Man, it would be great if we could afford Peter Nelson.”
Well, Peter was also the DP on the film Art & Copy, which I was lucky enough to see during the Boston Independent Film Festival (which is also where I met Jennifer McKenzie, who introduced me to Peter. But that’s another story for another post). And let me tell you, if Lemonade turns out half as good as A&C, it will still be an amazing film.
The reason I bring this up is because this is the opening weekend for Art & Copy, which, for independent films, is so incredibly important to its future success. In Peter’s words:
We open in NYC, Chicago, Denver and Seattle this week and more cities and venues are scheduled in the coming weeks (LA, Portland…) If you are can, try to catch it early–it is an indie doc with a limited release and the opening weekend is vital to the theatrical run of the film.
Below are the locations and schedules for this weekend. If you live in one of these cities, it would mean the world to me and to my faith in karma if you would see this picture, as early and as often as you can. As I mentioned, Peter volunteered to shoot Lemonade, flew to Boston and NYC on his own miles, and never once looked at his watch in the process. This man and his film deserve all the success we can give it.

Saw Art&Copy at the Seattle Film Festival – very good film. It’s about how film maker believes the personalities of advertising creatives influences their ads.
I was very disappointed with the film. It did nothing new. Did nothing to shed light on why and how advertising works. It was a mostly historical and overly romantic view of what we do. Not for the ad person, but more suited to the general population. Why can’t anyone get a movie about ad people right. I was more inspired by Mad Men. Seriously, I was.
I am looking forward to seeing this film if we can ever get it to Kuwait. i have already posted about it http://bloganubis.com/2009/08/15/art-copy/
