I have been managing creative people for almost 20 years. After graduating Emerson College, I formed my own production company and managed musicians, produced albums and concerts, ranging from Boston indie rock bands to a Grammy nominated composer.
In 2000, I decided I wanted paid vacations and a 401k, but wanted to remain in the creative field. Advertising seemed like the best place for me. I started working at Arnold and formed a unique creative management system for the Volkswagen group. This system was eventually adopted by the entire agency because of its effectiveness.
In 2008, I was hired to work for the Barbarian Group, serving as the director of the creative department across three offices in Boston, New York and San Francisco. At that time, The Barbarian Group was expanding rapidly and needed structure. I developed and implemented processes within the creative department, while ensuring career development and encouraged cross pollination within disciplines and across disciplines by getting them projects that were right for them and broadened them. I also recruited new talent and coordinated freelancers when necessary.
My belief is that by keeping an eye on happiness and careers of creatives, I ultimately help them become better creatives.
